ABOUT THE WORLD WIDOW'S DAY CELEBRATION 2023
World Widows Day is celebrated every year on June 23. This day was founded by Mr. Lord Loomba who founded the Loomba Foundation in 2005 after his father died on June 23 in 1954. The United Nations adopted this day as International through Resolution No. A/RES/65/189 dated December 21, 2010.
The celebration of the World Widows' Day provides an opportunity for widows and stakeholders to reflect on Plans, Strategies, Successes and Challenges faced by widows with the aim of strengthening cooperation in solving them. The theme of this celebration for the year 2023 was aimed at "empowering widows with better technology; raising them economically".
For Tanzania, these national celebrations were held for the first time in Mbeya Region, attended by various guests including Dr. Doroth Gwajima - minister in charge of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups (WMJJWM). at that point; Paralegals, Lawyers, Advocates, Courts and other justice agencies participated together to coordinate these celebrations as well as provide various services that touch the challenges of widows at no cost.
