Towards the commemoration of International Women's Day, EWAGITA conducted a one-day session on community sensitization of women's participation in leadership and the importance of girl child education at Chihangu Ward in Newala District Council. Speaking during the women's workshop, The Director had also an opportunity to learn and exchange experiences with women and the challenges facing the girl children in rural areas. Speaking with Community Development Officer and Ward Executive Officer the statistics of the Ward has shown more than 10% of the secondary students drop out of school due to a lack of parental support and strong traditions and customs that hinder girls from accomplishing their studies. Child marriage, shifting agriculture, child neglect, and ignorance of education value became a chronic problem that hinders child education in most rural areas in Tanzania. The Facilitator also encourages women to participate in upcoming local government leadership elections to echo women's voices in decision-making platforms.
